TerraRC - radio controlled cars

By Gregg Hall

Many parents can’t wait to get their children their first remote controlled cars, and that’s what people often think of when you mention remote controlled cars. The truth is that there are large numbers of adults who like to build and race radio controlled cars as a hobby.

The differences in kids’ radio controlled cars and those of adults are fairly extreme. The power source is different, for one thing. Some AA batteries will provide a power source that is completely appropriate for a kid’s RC car.

However, the cars built by hobbyists have engines that are complete working replicas of the engines of real cars. Although some do use large battery packs, they are much different that AA batteries. Radio controlled cars also use gasoline or nitro-methane.

The quality of parts you use for your radio controlled cars will have a great bearing on whether you can win any races or not. If you are looking for a speedy remote control car that can compete with the cars of other hobbyists, you will need to buy top of the line parts.

You may have to put out some money to get the very best, but that is probably what you will want. If you can find the right components and put them together right, you can use these parts to put together a car that can beat other cars in races.

You may not want to choose just one motor type for your radio controlled cars. For example, a nitro-methane has its pluses and minuses. It will be the fastest type of engine in the straightaway. If the race you are running has few turns, you can get a great deal of speed from it.

On the negative side, turns are difficult because nitro-methane is a heavier fuel than the others. Also, these engines do not hold up to continual use over time. They are best saved for the races for which they are best suited. If your RC car has an electric engine instead, you can save wear and tear on your nitro-methane engine.

If you want the fastest car in the race, you can’t forget the other components of the car. Top quality wheels and axels are also essential for a smooth-running car. You can pay a lot to get these components, but buying them with thoughtfulness makes a huge difference in the viability of your RC car on the racetrack. Get wheels that that are firm. They should also be as lightweight as possible to cut down on drag during the race. You may be able to try different parts at a hobby store.

For people who do not want to start from scratch, there are always kits. Some kits are made using high quality parts. Also, these kits can be customized by swapping out some of the parts that come with the kit for more expensive parts. You will probably never get the speed you desire from such cars, but you can begin to get the idea of what is required to get it.

Building a speedy remote control car is not just a matter of going out and getting the most expensive parts on the market, either. It requires a good deal of experience and work to find that special combination. Only then can you win the race.

Mobile phone controlled car

September 8th, 2008

Remote Control car controlled by a nokia mobile phone! The accelerometer in the nokia is detecting movement and communicating with the remote control car via bluetooth. I think there is Arduino inside the remote controlled car.

I wonder if this has been done with an iphone yet.

The world of the radio controlled car, or RC car, can be an exciting one indeed, and it seems more people than ever are enjoying the power, speed and excitement that only radio controlled cars and trucks can provide. Many of us of course may remember those radio controlled cars and trucks we played with as children, and we may have fond memories of running those vehicles through the house, perhaps chasing the family dog, or the kid sister. When it comes to hobby quality radio controlled cars, however, things are quite a bit different.

For one thing, hobby quality radio controlled cars and trucks are quite a bit faster than those toys you may remember from childhood. Many electric powered radio controlled cars can reach speeds of 40 mph or more, while some of the best nitro powered RC cars boast top speeds of 70 mph or more right out of the box.

With speeds like this it is easy to understand why RC car and truck racing has become such a wildly popular sport. For many enthusiasts, racing RC cars provides all the fun and excitement of racing full size cars, without the significant risk and expense of the more dangerous sport.

Many RC car enthusiasts also love the fact that radio control cars and trucks are nearly infinitely customizable and upgradeable. Many manufacturers feature parts which are easily swapped out between models, making it easy to upgrade the engine, the transmission, the suspension and other important parts very quickly. Radio controlled cars and trucks come in two basic varieties – electric powered and nitro powered. The electric models are powered by an electric motor, while the faster and more powerful nitro powered models feature internal combustion engines which are designed to run on specially formulated fuel. It is these nitro powered monsters that are able to achieve those blazing fast speeds.

Most radio controlled car and truck enthusiasts recommend that those just getting started in the hobby begin by purchasing a well made ready to run car or truck. You may also see the term ARTR from time to time. When purchasing a radio controlled vehicle listed as ARTR it is important to determine what parts you need to get the vehicle on the road.

The benefits to the beginner of purchasing an RTR radio control vehicle are many, and those new to the hobby should definitely consider this option strongly. For one thing, a ready to run vehicle provides all the benefits of a hobby quality radio controlled car or truck, including the speed, maneuverability, realistic look and upgradeability, without the need to build the car or truck from the ground up.

After you have gained a bit of experience in the hobby, however, you may want to give building your own radio controlled vehicle a whirl. For many in the hobby, building their own vehicles is the best part of the hobby, and it can certainly provide a great deal of satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment. Building and racing your own radio controlled vehicle is one of the best parts of this great hobby. Find out more at http://www.rc-hq.com
